In Germany, the great victory of the day went to IIya Ivashka (107 °). The Belarusian defeated Alexander Zverev (6th) by 6-7 (5), 7-5 and 6-3. With this result, he reached the semifinals of the ATP 250 in Munich.
The German conquered the first set by means of the tie break but could not sentence the match. Ivashka raised her level and turned the result around winning the third and fourth quarter by 7-5 and 6-3. His opponent in the semis will be Jan-Lennard Struff (44th). The German eliminated the Serbian Krajinovic (36th) by 6-4, 4-6 and 7-6 (3).
The record between Ivashka and Struff favors the German 1-0. It was a double 6-4 victory in the 2020 Davis Cup.
Due to the rain, the corresponding quarter-final matches will be completed on Saturday. Norwegian Casper Ruud (24th) won the first set 6-3 against Australian John Millman (40th) and the match remains to be finished.
The same for the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (35th), who was leading 5-4 on the scoreboard against the Slovakian Norbert Gombos (95th). The winners of both games will face off in the semis a few hours later for a place in Sunday’s final.
