Nikoloz Basilashvili (35th) became champion of the ATP 250 in Munich after beating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets 6-4 and 7-6 (5) in almost an hour and a half of play. It is the fifth title for the Georgian, the second of the season.
Although it was an even match and with great points on both sides, the balance tipped in favor of the 35th in the world, who capitalized on one of the two break opportunities that he generated throughout the match and was imposed after a second set set.
The funny thing about Basilashvili is that on clay lose in the first round or win the title, amazing! In 2017, in Hamburg, he was eliminated in his debut. In the next two editions he was crowned champion, in 2020 he fell again in the first round and, finally, this year he won the Munich title.
The record between Struff and Basilashvili was even, with this victory the 29-year-old Georgian took a 3-2 lead.
