It started with everything! The Madrid Masters 1000 had his first four first-round singles matches, among which the triumph of Denis Shapovalov stood out, as well as the doubles table, of which Diego Schwartzman and Fabio Fognini were eliminated. In WTA, Simona Halep advanced smoothly, while the surprises were the defeats of Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova, who said goodbye to the contest.

The Canadian beat Dusan Lajovic in straight sets and in just over an hour of play after a comfortable 6-1 and 6-3. For its part, the Argentine and the Italian fell to the Russian duo made up of Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov by 7-6 (5) and 6-2.

In the next round, Shapovalov will face Alexander Bublik, another of the debutants of the first day, who beat Marton Fucsovics by 7-6 (5) and 6-3. For its part, Alex de Miñaur beat Jaume Munar after a 4-6, 7-5 and 6-1 and wait for Lloyd Harris or Grigor Dimitrov.

Furthermore, the American Tommy Paul made his presentation in Madrid with victory over Spanish Pedro Martínez: He took the match 6-4 and 7-5 and his second round will not be easy, since he will be measured with Rublev.

Regarding the last qualy matches, Marco Cecchinato got rid of Roberto Carballes Baena by 4-6, 6-0 and 6-3, Alexei Popyrin did the same with Arthur Cazaux by 7-5 and 7-6 and Federico Delbonis beat Juan Ignacio Londero by 6-4 and 6-4. The great surprise of this stage was the elimination suffered by Lorenzo Musetti at the hands of Carlos Taberner by 6-4 and 6-2.

There was also action from another South American: the doubles draw had a second game, which was the triumph of Daniil Medvedev and Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner against Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski by 6-3 and 7-6 (4).

In WTA, the second round was played: Halep beat Saisai Zheng smoothly. by 6-0 and 6-4; Osaka, surprisingly said goodbye to the painting early after falling to Karolina Muchova 6-4, 3-6 and 6-1; Aryna Sabalenka beat Daria Kasatkina by a double 6-3; Maria Sakkari defeated Anett Kontaveit by 6-3 and 6-1; Jennifer Brady surpassed Jelena Ostapenko by 6-2 and 6-1; Elise Mertens advanced in front of Elena Rybakina; while Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova hit Karolina Pliskova and eliminated it after a 6-0 and 7-5.

For its part, Victoria Azarenka could not dispute her match against Jessica Pegula due to a back injury, and therefore the American immediately advanced to the round.

In this way, the Masters 1000 in Madrid has already spent its first day in the men’s singles and doubles table, and in the next few days there will be matches so as not to detach from the ESPN screen. In WTA, the picture is already beginning to open.
