Demetrius Andrade Y Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez engaged in a discussion at the press conference, after the Mexican triumph over Billy Joe Saunders.
“When are we going to fight?” Andrade to Canelo.
“You have not fought with anyone,” replied the Mexican, to which finally the father of Andrade pointed out that it was he who had decided to evade a fight with Demetrius in middleweight.
The statement ended up annoying the Jalisco, holder of the super middle belts of the WBO, WBC Y AMB, who ended up telling both of them to go to hell and get out.
Andrade continued attacking Canelo whom he even pointed to as a “bitch”, while being removed from the press room.
Demetrius is the current champion of the OMB in the middle and maintains a mark of 30 wins without any record of losses and 18 by way of knockout.
He last fought in April 2021, when he successfully defended his belt against Liam williams in the Hard Rock Stadium. Although he clearly won, his performance did not convince.
Canelo’s next step
However, despite the provocations of Andrade, Canelo Alvarez seems to have no intention of going down the division and, on the contrary, thinks to face Caleb Plant and stay as the only 168-pound champion.
“That’s the plan, go for the belt (of Plant) and I’m going for him ”, he said at the end of the confrontation. “Hopefully that fight can take place and keep the four championships.”
The Mexican has already said that he will stay in the super middle division and does not plan to go down to medium or go up to light heavy.
