Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers Champions of the Madrid Masters 1000 were consecrated in the doubles category after beating Croatians Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic 1-6, 6-3 and 10-8. Thus, the Argentine broke a Guillermo Vilas record.
The meeting began adversely for the Argentine-Spanish duo, which was widely overcome in the first set. There the Croats obtained 26 points against only 10 of their rivals, winning the sleeve by great difference. In the second, Zeballos and Granollers recovered with great tennis and took advantage of the only break point chance they had to make the difference that allowed them to take the set. In the super tiebreak, the development was very even until the end, when with three match points in favor the Argentine and the Spanish closed the match with greater comfort.
Thanks to this victory, Zeballos became the Argentine tennis player who won the most doubles titles, with 17, surpassing Guillermo Vilas who has 16.
