Nadia Podoroska (44th) made her WTA 250 Belgrade debut after beating Timea Babos (108th, winner of three WTA singles titles and 28 doubles, of which four are Grand Slam titles) by 6-2, 4-6 and 6-3 in two hours and 14 minutes of play.
Rosario had a brilliant start, although little by little the level of the Hungarian tennis player grew and the meeting was completely matched.
The key to the game, which later ended up being the main difference, was in unforced errors: Babos committed 34, over Podoroska’s 17. In turn, Argentina knew how to capitalize five of the eight break points he had, and from there he strengthened to stretch the advantage.
This was the second time they met in singles: the first meeting was in 2016 by the WTA of Florianópolis in which the Hungarian took the victory by 6-7 (3), 6-3 and 6-2.
It should be remembered that Podoroska comes from falling in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 in Rome, which had Iga Swiatek as champion, a tournament in which in the second round she beat Serena Williams.
In this way, the 5th seed passed her debut in the first round in Serbia and continues in the race.
