Defense and Justice defeated as a visitor on Tuesday 4-3, with a goal in the last minute, Palmeiras, current champion of the Copa Libertadores and who lined up a team of substitutes thanks to the fact that they had already guaranteed their place in the round of 16 of the tournament and the first place of Group A.
The home setback in a match for the fifth day of the group stage left Palmeiras with 12 points, after four victories and a draw, and provisionally guaranteed Defense and Justice second place in the group, with 8 points, no matter what. That the Independent of the Ecuadorian Valley (4) gets in his visit this Tuesday to the Peruvian University (1).
The Argentine team was three times ahead of the scoreboard, with two goals from Walter Bou and another from Matías Rodríguez, but the Libertadores champion reached the tie with scores from Zé Raphael, Willian and Gustavo Scarpa. Defense and Justice only guaranteed victory in the last minute with a goal from Brian Romero.
Palmeiras lined up a team full of substitutes, in which Luan was practically the only starter, because he reserved his best players for Thursday’s game, in which he will face Sao Paulo in the first leg for the final of the Paulista Championship .
The coach of the São Paulo team, the Portuguese Abel Ferreira, preferred to give priority to the matches on Thursday and Sunday that will define the new champion of the state of Sao Paulo.
After a rather stubborn start in which the two teams concentrated in the center of the court, despite some advances from Willian for Palmeiras and from Loaiza for the Argentine club, Defensa y Justicia opened the scoring at 9 minutes with a score by attacker Walter Bou after a corner kick.
But Palmeiras only needed a minute to tie in a free-kick by Gustavo Scarpa that Zé Raphael completed inside the area.
The draw calmed the nervousness of the Palmeiras substitutes, who came to dominate the game with consecutive attacks from the Uruguayan Matías Viña, Wesley and Willian.
But in the 29th minute, in a counterattack launched by Rotondi, Walter Bou, with a header, scored his second goal and put Defense and Justice ahead again.
Once again, the São Paulo team reacted quickly and five minutes later they drew after Zé Raphael’s play ended by Willian, who Juan Rodríguez deflected with a touch that dislodged goalkeeper Luis Ezequiel Unsain.
For the second half, faced with the need for a victory and to take advantage of the absence of the Palmeiras figures, the defense and Justice coach, Sebastián Beccacece, opted to improve the attack with the departure of the steering wheel Loaiza and the entry of forward Hachen.
The change paid off and full-back Matías Rodríguez scored the third for the Argentine club in the 52nd minute.
With the partial victory, Beccacece preferred to take risks and play defense, and replaced Bou, who scored two goals, with Escalante.
The change allowed the current champion of the Libertadores to play with more freedom and take the initiative, despite the excess of errors in the passes and the lack of creativity.
With the insistence, Gustavo Scarpa tied the game in the 75th minute after an assist from Matías Viña.
Palmeiras tried the comeback and went on the attack in the last minutes, but was hurt by the expulsion of Varderlan.
Braian Romero scored the winning goal for the Argentines with a header already in the minutes of re-entry (90 + 4) when the two teams already seemed satisfied with the tie.
