MADRID – Real Madrid confirmed the signing of defender David Alaba, who arrives for free after signing for the next five seasons.
The versatile Austrian defender ended his contract with Bayern Munich on June 30, and already in February announced that he would leave the German club to have an experience at another club.
Barcelona, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain also considered his signing but a few weeks ago ESPN reported that the footballer had decided to sign for Madrid.
The white club finally made the news official on Friday afternoon, a day after Zinedine Zidane confirmed his decision to leave the club.
“Real Madrid CF has reached an agreement with the player David Alaba, who remains linked to the club for the next five seasons,” confirmed the white club on its website.
“David Alaba will be presented as a new Real Madrid player after the completion of Euro 2021.”
Alaba, 28, can play as a center, winger or even as a pivot, so he will serve to reinforce different areas.
The signing increases doubts about other centrals of the white team. However, Sergio Ramos will be free on June 30 and remains unrenewed while the club would consider selling Varane this summer.
Alaba has been a key player at Bayern since his debut in 2010, winning the Champions League twice, winning ten Bundesliga titles and six German Cups.
