Semifinals in San Juan: the antecedents of Independiente and Colón in the Bicentennial

San Juan is once again the center of attention of the entire country. At the Bicentennial Stadium, the semifinal keys of the League Cup and the final will be played.

The Independent Athletic Club and Colón de Santa Fe will be the protagonists in the first crossing of that instance soon to be disputed.

Before continuing, we briefly recall how those entered the semis. On one side is Colón, the cast led by Eduardo Domínguez, who has just eliminated Godoy Cruz de Mendoza. The match played at Brigadier General Estanislao López ended 1 to 1 in regular time. And in the penalty shootout, those led by Miguel ‘Pulga’ Rodríguez won 5 to 3 and took tickets to San Juan.

For his part, Independiente left another candidate on the road. Estudiantes de La Plata, at their home, the Jorge Luis Hirschi stadium, could not face those led by Julio Falcioni. During the 90 ‘the score was goalless; and in the definition from the penalty spot, the team led by Silvio Romero won 4 to 1.

Now, what background is there of these teams in the Gigante de Pocito?

The historical archive offers little information in this regard. For what reason? It happens that Rojo de Avellaneda has only one match played in our stadium; and at the same time, the Sabalero from Santa Fe will make his official debut at the San Juan del Bicentenario. Quite a piece of information in the preview of this very interesting sporting event.

With regard to Independiente, curiously his only antecedent was precisely before Estudiantes. It was 2014 and on Wednesday, October 1 of that year they met. Both played one of the keys to the round of 16 of the Argentine Cup. The result? 2 to 0 in favor of Pincha platense. Ezequiel Cerutti and Diego Vera scored the goals of that game.

The heads-up between Independiente and Colón will take place this Monday from 7:00 p.m. Diego Abal will be the main referee of the match. Santafecinos arrive more rested, since the Rojo had a commitment last week for the South American Cup.
