Rafael Nadal (3rd) debuted with victory at Roland Garros 2021: 6-3, 6-2 and 7-6 (3) against Alexei Popyrin (63rd) at the Philippe-Chatrier. Rafa’s path in search of the 21st Grand Slam began.
In the first two sets, Nadal marked the time of the match without problems. It was played as the King of Dust wanted, who was heading for an uncomplicated debut in Paris.
In the third quarter, Popyrin knew how to dominate the Manacorí in the tournament that Nadal conquered the most times (13). In fact he was broken up and had two set points although the Fiera appeared in all its splendor.
Nadal put together eight straight games at Roland Garros without giving up a set: throughout RG 2020 he won in straight sets and his last lost set was against Thiem in the 2019 definition.
In the next round, Nadal will face Richard Gasquet, with whom he has a brutal 16-0 record.
