Tomás Chancalay arrived at Racing in the last transfer market. From where? From Colón de Santa Fe, nothing less. Yes, the rival of the Academy in this final of the Professional League Cup.
Within a market of passes where the budget of the clubs was not abundant, the Academy moved with good judgment.
Enzo Copetti was one of the surprises that performed very well at the Avellaneda club. And Chancalay is another of the figures, that in addition to a good performance, he contributed a much-needed goal quota to a team that does not stand out for its scoring ability.
The former Colón striker has 10 goals for Pizzi’s team, counting those who have been converted in the Professional League Cup and the Libertadores.
Goals that were very important, such as the two he scored in the last match of the regular phase, and that allowed the Academy to beat San Lorenzo 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals.
In the Libertadores he closed the group stage with a hat trick, converted against Rentistas from Uruguay: in the continental tournament he had also scored against Sporting Cristal, in Peru.
Undoubtedly it is to highlight the forward, who in Colón scored eight goals in 81 games. And in Racing, in only 19 appearances, he already has 10 annotations.
A challenge for Chanca will be to fight to be the top gunner of the tournament: it will not be easy, since Santos Borré and Pulga Rodríguez have eight goals. Will he go for another triplet?
A few hours before meeting the rival of the final, when Colón faced Independiente, he declared: “I have many friends in Colón, I would like it to happen.”
Now, he must seek his first title in First before the club that saw him born, and to which he arrived when he was eight years old.
