Paris Saint Germain has entered with force in the bid for Gigi Wijnaldum to try to torpedo his transfer to Barcelona, various sources informed ESPN.
Wijnaldum, 30, ends his contract with Liverpool on June 30 and warned the English club long ago that he did not want to continue at Anfield.
Barcelona already tried his signing last summer at the request of Ronald Koeman and he returned to the load in this market taking advantage of the fact that he arrived free of contract.
At the club there was a lot of optimism after last week Barcelona executives met twice with the player’s representative at the Camp Nou; however, sources now acknowledge ESPN that the competition is tough and that closing the deal will not be easy.
In this sense, the feeling in Barcelona is not the best, given that they know that PSG’s economic offer is higher than the one that the Barça club sent him a few days ago.
Barcelona sources consulted by ESPN they warned that “it will not be a simple market” and that “the competition for a free market footballer is going to be tremendous.”
It must be remembered that so far, Barcelona announced the zero-cost signings of Eric García and Sergio Agüero, both from Manchester City. The arrival of Emerson Royal, the Brazilian side of Real Betis, for whom they paid nine million, was also made official.
Together with Wijnaldum, Barcelona is working on the hiring of Memphis Depay, of whom Ronald Koeman gave very good reports as soon as he was appointed Barcelona coach in August 2020.
Barcelona are fighting with Juventus and Inter Milan for the services of the Dutch striker, who in the last game with the Dutch team scored two goals and gave an assist.
