The reasons why Roger Federer withdrew from Roland Garros

Roger Federer decided that he will not play his round of 16 match at the French Open. After beating Dominik Koepfer 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) and 7-5 in a match that lasted 3 hours and 39 minutes, His Majesty withdrew from the tournament for physical reasons.

Roland Garros was the first Major to feature the winner of 20 Grand Slam trophies after nearly 500 days (Australian Open 2020). In Paris, Roger reached the fourth round, but for reasons he explained on his social networks he chose to unsubscribe from the tournament.

“After the discussions I had with my team, I decided that today I must withdraw from the French Open. After two knee surgeries and more than a year of rehabilitation it is important that I listen to my body and be sure not to push myself too quickly on my way to recovery. I am excited to have won three games. There is no better feeling than being back on the track. See you soon!”Federer posted.

In this way, Matteo Berrettini advanced without playing to the quarterfinals of the tournament and will dispute with the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti a place in the semifinals.
