Rafael Nadal and Diego Schwartzman will face each other in the quarterfinals of the French Open, in what will be the 12th cross between the two. The same is led by the manacorí by 10-1.
The first time these players met was in Acapulco 2013, where La Fiera triumphed decisively by double 6-2. Two years later, in the second round of the US Open, the Spaniard was the one who won again, this time 7-6 (5), 6-3 and 7-5. In the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 2017, Nadal made it to the semifinals of the tournament after defeating the Argentine 6-4 by double.
The 2018 Australian Open witnessed the first set won by Schwartzman against the 20-trophy Grand Slam champion. Rafa was left with the victory by 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3 and 6-3 in the round of 16 of the contest. That year, both players crossed paths on two other occasions: at the Madrid Masters 1000 and Roland Garros, and in both the 35-year-old player was the winner.
2019 also saw them share the pitch three times. Indian Wells, US Open and Davis Cup were the venues where Nadal beat the Albiceleste tennis player. However, in 2020 Schwartzman was able to remove the thorn. In the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Rome, Peque obtained his first triumph over the European. It was by 6-2 and 7-5 to access the semifinals of the tournament, in which he later reached the definition.
In the past Roland Garros the last confrontation between Nadal and the Argentine took place. The match was for a place in the final of the Major and the future winner of the contest was the one who signed the exit to his opponent by 6-3, 6-3 and 7-6 (0). In the quarterfinals of the French Open 2021 a new edition of this crossing will be played.
Both tennis players arrive at this meeting without giving up sets. Nadal did it against Jannik Sinner, Cameron Norrie, Richard Gasquet and Alexei Popyrin, while the Argentine did it against Jan-Lennard Struff, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Aljaz Bedene and Lu Yen-hsun.
