Canelo Álvarez, Checo Pérez and other celebrities who are really good at golf

Athletes from other disciplines such as Checo and Canelo who show their passion for golf on the green

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez was invited to the BMW Charity Pro-Am of the Korn Ferry Tour. The Mexican boxer joined a long list of celebrities who have invited him to compete golf professionally. However, he is not the only sports star who can or could do it.

Due to the popularity of the sport, more and more celebrities from the elite are interested in this activity. On ESPN Digital We recap those players from other disciplines who are really good on the goal field.

Saul Alvarez

The ‘Canelo’ began to play recurrently around 2019 and in just over two years dominated his swing. With the best courses in San Diego at his disposal, the Mexican boxer developed his own style and thanks to his discipline and competitiveness, something that started as a hobby, has already led him to play his first professional tournament. While maintaining the amateur category, Álvarez made the cut in the stars section and will play this weekend for a chance to take the title.

In addition, the boxer has received advice from PGA Tour players such as Mexicans Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz, with whom he has played practice rounds, as well as Mexican Gaby López, who plays on the LPGA.

Czech Pérez

The Mexican Formula 1 driver has made his love for this sport very clear. Over the years, ‘Checo’ developed his talents off the track and although he does not have much free time as he continues to adjust to his new team, Red Bull, he has made it clear how much he likes to play.

With friends like the Mexicans Ancer and Ortiz, ‘Checo’ Pérez is aware of what they do every weekend on the PGA Tour.

Tony romo

The former NFL Dallas Cowboys star displayed serious golf skills and after being invited to several Pro-Ams, he earned the right to play as a professional thanks to a sponsor invitation.

In total, Romo has participated in four events on the PGA Tour and some on the Korn Ferry Tour. The professional golfers who have seen him play have praised his good game and his approach.

The point guard of the Golden State Warriors of the NBA has shown his level of golf in the Pro-Am to which he has been invited in the PGA Tour and in the Korn Ferry.

The American basketball player has played, above all, with players like Jordan Spieth, since they share a clothing sponsor and that has allowed him to receive advice from the winner of the Augusta Masters in 2015.

The quarterback for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers is passionate about the sport. He has even starred in the series The Match alongside Phil Mickelson, with whom he teamed up to play against Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning.

When Brady is not on the field, he takes advantage of it to improve his swing movements and compete at a good level.

Kelly slater

The 11-time world surfing champion has a handicap of 3, giving him an advantage over many of his competitors when on the golf course.

Considered one of the best surfers in history, if not the best, Slater alternates between the waves and the greens to pass his time. People close to him have even said that he plays golf about 150 days a year, which means three to four times a week.
