Roland Garros 2021: the final that broke a record after 17 years

The Roland Garros final in its 2021 edition, starring Novak Djokovic (1st) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (5th), entered history for a curious fact: it is the second in the 21st century to go to the fifth set in Paris.

In 2004 it was Guillermo Coria and Gastón Gaudio who starred in the other five-set definition, with a victory for the Temperley-born 0-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 8-6. It took 17 years for the Serb and the Greek to repeat what the Argentines had achieved.

In that period between 2004 and 2021, the hegemony of Rafael Nadal was imposed, who took 13 trophies (seven in four sets and six in three) and did not have to undergo a definition in the fifth sleeve.
