Hungary vs. Portugal - Match Report - June 15, 2021

Portugal was dominant against Hungary and although they struggled, they ended up winning a 3-0 victory in their first match at Euro 2020, in which Cristiano Ronaldo was featured by scoring a couple of touchdowns.

The match began at a good pace, with a fight in the midfield in search of greater possession of the ball, which gradually had the Portuguese team, which tried to take the lead on the scoreboard.

Diogo Jota had the first of the game when he received the ball on the edge of the area, he removed the mark to take a powerful shot that was rejected by goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi and everything was scared for the Hungarian team.

Cristiano Ronaldo tried to become an important element for his team, but the opponent stood up well in the defensive sector and knew how to contain the attacks, while the attack could not even disturb the Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The dominance was of the Portuguese team, but it could not reflect it on the scoreboard and Cristiano Ronaldo could not specify after 30 minutes, when he connected with the head a center from the right and so once again everything was left in the attempt to take advantage in the match .

Hungary’s first opportunity came until 35 minutes and it was through a free kick taken by Roland Sallai, who sent the ball into the area where Adam Szalai appeared to finish his head, but could not connect solidly and left the ball in the hands of the rival goalkeeper, which kept the marker motionless.

Cristiano Ronaldo let go of a clear opportunity in the 43rd minute, after a cross from the left reached the center of the area without a mark, but misconnected the ball that went over the rival goal.

Portugal did not stop trying to take advantage and in the first moments of the complementary part Pepe finished off a cross from Bruno Fernandes, but the Hungarian goalkeeper had a timely intervention to reject.

The rival had some arrivals in search of damage, but everything remained at that, while Portugal continued to take control of the shares against an opponent who advanced their lines in search of an advantage on the board.

Hungary’s defense remained well positioned on the pitch, so it was difficult for the Portuguese to try to get ahead on the scoreboard, since their arrivals were well cut by the opponent.

Portugal looked for different options to do damage and one of them was with a shot from outside the area by Fernandes, but again goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi figured by launching to his left to send the ball to the side.

In the final stretch of the match, the Portuguese maintained inertia and this paid off in the 84th minute, after Raphael Guerreiro received the ball in the area, shot to send it to the nets and thus fell 1-0.

Portugal took advantage of the rival’s discouragement to increase the difference to 2-0 and went to 86 minutes through a penalty scored by Cristiano Ranaldo, who again appeared at 92 to achieve 3-0 on the scoreboard.

In the last minutes, the rival simply no longer had reaction power and thus the Portuguese added their first three points in the activity of Group F of the Eurocup.
