Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals in Portugal’s victory over Hungary, on his Euro debut, and with them he broke several records
The striker of the Portugal National Team Cristiano Ronaldo became the top scorer in the history of the European Championship yesterday and the Juventus striker boasts of having scored in all the official competitions he has played with the Portuguese team.
According to data from ESPN’s SportsCenter, Ronaldo, 36, has scored at least one goal in each of the tournaments that has represented Portugal. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker registers 87 goals in competitions organized by FIFA or UEFA.
In five appearances in the Eurocup, CR7 has 11 goals while in four editions of the World Cup he has scored seven goals. In qualifying matches for the World Cup or the EURO, El ‘Bicho’ boasts 31 scores in each competition and in tournaments such as the UEFA Nations League or Confederations Cup, Ronaldo has five and two goals, respectively.
Another record close to the veteran captain of the Portuguese team is that of the best assistant in the history of the European Championship, where the record is held by the Czech Karel Poborsky with eight passes on goal. Cristiano Ronaldo accumulates six passes that ended up in the networks.
Ronaldo’s two goals against Hungary was 106 with the Portugal jersey and in the history of national team football he is only behind Iranian Ali Daei with 109 goals.
The Portuguese striker beat the European record as a scorer with his team (84 goals) from Ferenc Puskás during the 2018 World Cup, and this Tuesday he became the highest scorer in the history of the European Championship in the stadium that bears the name of the Hungarian legend who also played for the Spanish team.
The next match of Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the Eurocup will be next Saturday against Germany, which is forced to beat the Lusitanians after losing 1-0 to France.
