Wimbledon is getting closer and closer and the best players in the world will try to fulfill a dream: lift the trophy in the cathedral of tennis. Now, with some exceptions, the eight seeded in ATP and WTA do not have good statistics on the grass of the All England.
Excluding Novak Djokovic (1st) and Roger Federer (8th), both champions, the rest could not reach the quarterfinals of the tournament: Daniil Medvedev (2nd) did not pass the third round. Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th), Dominic Thiem (5th), Alex Zverev (6th) and Matteo Berrettini (9th) did not make it through the round of 16. Finally, Andrey Rublev (7th) has the best mark having reached the second game.
It should be noted that Rafael Nadal (3rd), a two-time winner, is out of the tournament.
In the female box, things do not vary too much. Even the numbers are lower. Except for Simona Halep (3rd), Elina Svitolina (6th) and Serena Williams (8th), none of the top eight seeded passed the third round. Halep was champion in 2019, Svitolina semifinalist in the same year Y Serena champion seven times (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016).
Ashleigh Barty (1st) was never able to win in the third round. Aryna Sabalenka (4th) and Sofia Kenin (5th) did not even make it to the third round. While Bianca Andreescu (7th) and Iga Swiatek (9th) did not advance more than the debut.
Naomi Osaka (2nd), who has just retired from Roland Garros, will not play the tournament and will prepare for the Tokyo Olympics.
