LONDON – England captain Harry Kane acknowledged that they did not play their best game against Scotland and that their substitution is “part of the game”.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker did not play well against Scotland and had no chance to score, as well as touching the ball only 19 times, his worst record in games in which he has played more than 45 minutes for England.
“It was a fair result and a good game for Scotland. They defended well. It was not our best game, but it is one more point for qualifying and that is our goal. We have to recover and look to the next game now.” said the English forward to the ITV chain.
Kane, who has not yet made his debut in this European Championship, was replaced 20 minutes from the end, after a very gray game.
“It’s part of the game, the coach thought it was the right decision so we have to accept it,” he said.
“It was a very difficult game because Scotland defended very well. We knew there were not going to be easy games because this is a European Championship and Scotland is fighting to the fullest.”
Now England will play the first position of the group on the last day against the Czech Republic, in a match in which it will only be worth winning.
“We have an important match in a few days and we have to finish up. This is just one point, not what we wanted, but we are closer to qualifying.”
