Amid all the action at the Euro and Copa América, the summer transfer window has opened for some leagues, and Europe’s biggest clubs are looking to make a splash in the transfer market. Check out the latest rumors below and see all the official offers here.
THE MAIN STORY OF THE DAY: Manchester United wants Pau Torres in exchange
The Manchester United is advancing in a move by Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The 24-year-old has impressed with the ‘Yellow Submarine’ this season, making 33 out of 38 possible appearances in La Liga. Torres also played a key role in the Europa League success of Unai Emery’s team, who managed to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United on penalties in the final.
The Spanish international, on duty at Euro 2020, has a termination clause of 60 million euros in his contract that runs until 2024. However, United’s hierarchy has the growing belief that an offer that involves a fee, more players, he could persuade the La Liga team to let him go, although the Spanish side would prefer a higher valuation with no players involved.
The Red Devils are eager to beef up their defensive line, looking for an ideal partner for Captain Harry Maguire. If they fail to land Torres, there are several backup options they are evaluating as well.
The club saw a 55 million euro offer rejected by Real Madrid for Raphael Varane and is reluctant to go higher as the player’s contract expires in 2022. Sergio Ramos is another who has been linked to the Premier team League in recent weeks and is available with a free transfer from Real Madrid this summer.
09:00 Chelsea has a “concrete interest” in Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish this summer, according to Football Insider.
Pep Guardiola wants Grealish as part of Manchester City’s summer squad strengthening program, and sources tell ESPN that the City manager considers the midfielder as important a target as Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
However, Chelsea are also poised to fight for Grealish after spending more than £ 220 million on Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and Edouard Mendy last summer.
Grealish is valued at around £ 100 million and signed a five-year deal with Villa last year. Villa spent £ 33m to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City this summer and they are also reportedly interested in Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and Arsenal playmaker Emile Smith Rowe.
08:45 There are reports that Raheem Sterling could be one of the players Manchester City uses to tempt Tottenham to move Harry Kane for more than £ 100 million this summer, but sources have told ESPN that the England winger is not willing to be part of any deal.
The Daily star says City could offer four other players as potential trades: Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez.
Sources have told ESPN that there is an acceptance at Etihad Stadium that it will be difficult to remove Kane from Tottenham this summer given his importance to Spurs and his contractual situation.
08:30 Liverpool defender Neco Williams is reportedly available for £ 10 million and Leeds, Southampton, Aston Villa and Burnley are showing interest, according to The Athletic.
The 20-year-old Williams has impressed with Wales at Euro 2020, but has struggled to get Trent Alexander-Arnold out of the starting eleven at Anfield.
08:20 Wolves forward Adama Traore appears to be eager to return to Barcelona.
Traore, 25, left Barcelona in 2015 and headed for Aston Villa before joining Middlesbrough and then Wolves in 2018. The Spanish international is at Euro 2020 and has a contract with the Wolves until 2023.
“Barcelona is my home, that’s the reality. I grew up there, I was there for 10 years,” he told RAC1. “They have always given me a lot. We would have to see what they offer … but now the mentality is the national team and Wednesday’s game.”
Barcelona certainly don’t need a striker at the moment as they have Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Memphis Depay, Trincao and Martin Braithwaite. But Sport acknowledges that they might be interested in a Trincao-Traore trade.
08:00 ACE says that Mallorca is “on pole” to get the loan of Atlético de Madrid’s substitute goalkeeper, Ivo Grbic.
Grbic, 25, is trapped behind No. 1 Jan Oblak and needs playing time, but Atlético may need to consider getting a reliable backing if they lose him, though they could promote 23-year-old Miguel San Román.
07:50 Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Hakan Calhanoglu is undergoing his medical examination at Inter before his move from AC Milan.
The 27-year-old Calhanoglu will leave Milan with a free transfer this summer and move to the club’s city rivals.
07:30 Transfer rumors keep spinning, but it is unlikely that any of Europe’s top clubs will spend € 100 million on a player this summer, as they have in the past. Transfer values have been reduced and clubs are cutting costs, but swap deals could be the salvation.
What if Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Rodrygo switch places with Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé? Or even Cristiano Ronaldo and Aaron Ramsey from Juventus moving to Manchester United, with Paul Pogba going the other direction?
With the caveat that they are all hypothetical, here is a list of trade deals that the big clubs could try to strike in the transfer market to get what they want.
