MUNICH – Bayern Munich goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer said he and his teammates are “relieved” after qualifying for the knockout stages of the European Championship with a difficult draw against Hungary that saw him second place in the group.
“It is difficult to say anything after the match, but we are relieved to have qualified,” Neuer said after the match.
“It is difficult to play against a team like this when you are behind on the scoreboard. In the first half we were not lucky with the shot to the crossbar (of Hummels) that could have been the tie,” he added.
Neuer said that the round of 16 match against England will be different and assured that it is good for Germany to have a rival who tries to make the game.
“Wembley is also a stadium that is always good for us,” he said.
