Marc Márquez broke a new MotoGP record after winning in Germany

Marc Márquez

The victory of Marc Márquez in the circuit of Sachsenring It was not only emotional. The race that was held last Sunday left cloth to cut in the paddock. However, the Spanish not only was left with a new victory, but also set a record in MotoGP, surpassing one of the most important legends in the history of the Motorcycle World Championship: Giacomo Agostini.

This Sunday Márquez obtained his 11th consecutive victory at this circuit, the 8th in the highest category. The first of them was in 2010, in the minor of the divisional (125cc). He then scored two victories in Moto2, in 2011 and 2012. With his promotion to MotoGP, the Spanish rider took all the victories at this circuit. From 2013 to 2021, Márquez won (2020 was not raced).

Admiration: Great sports figures congratulated Marc Márquez after winning the German GP

This meant breaking a record for Márquez, who won 11 times and beat Giacomo Agostini in the statistics. The Italian had won nine times in a row the Finnish GP, on Imatra, from 1965 to 1973, winning again in 1975. On the other hand, Agostini won eight times in a row at the historic circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, from 1966 to 1973.

However, there is another goal in Márquez’s career. The Spaniard is not the biggest winner in the history of the German Grand Prix, a record also held by the 15-time World Motorcycling champion. Agostini achieved 13 victories in this race, which was raced on various circuits throughout its history: Avus, Solitude, Nordschleife, Nürburgring, Hockenheimring and Sachsenring

“In September, October and November I was scared. More than not winning again, I was worried about the evolution of my arm. I had less strength and there was an infection inside my body. We were lagging behind instead of overtaking and I was worried about my life, not about the competition. But from the third intervention, everything became more normal. That last part of the year was very difficult for me ”, confessed Márquez after winning in Germany.
