This weekend the last race will take place before the usual summer stop that has the Formula 1. However, there will be a very particular situation in the Austrian Grand Prix, in the Red Bull Ring: Fernando Alonso he will be replaced in the first round of free practice this Friday.
The team Alpine confirmed that the Asturian will not be part of the first training session this Friday. However, this is a common process in most teams, which usually give their test drivers some chance to collect data and give some feedback on the behavior of the car on the track.
Alpine will put the reserve driver of his team and current driver of Formula 2, Guanyu Zhou. The Chinese pilot will be in charge, along with Esteban Ocon, to play the first batch of the weekend. This was confirmed on Monday through a statement released by the French team, which surprised everyone.
“Going out in FP1 of a Formula 1 Grand Prix is a dream come true. On Friday I will take another step towards my goal of being an official rider, it will be a very special moment for me. I am preparing myself to the maximum and I hope to be ready to fulfill all the objectives and programs that you have in mind for me this Friday, ”Zhou confirmed.
Zhou will be the second Chinese to enter Formula 1. The first to do so was Ma Quin Hua, team driver HRT, who participated in training at the British GP from 2012. “Being behind the wheel of such a car will be a very special feeling. It will be even more so when being in Fernando’s car, a driver who has inspired me a lot when I was young. I am very happy with everything I have achieved so far and I want to thank all the support ”, he highlighted.
