Italy 90-83 Puerto Rico
Italy took advantage of a 19-0 run in the second half to take command and eventually beat Puerto Rico in a clash of teams that already knew they were heading to Saturday’s Semifinals.
They were assigned to Group B in Belgrade, along with Senegal, which was unable to make it to the tournament due to issues related to positive coronavirus tests and travel restrictions. So Italy and Puerto Rico lost victories over Senegal, which means they were assured of playing this weekend even before the event started.
Nico Mannion, Achille Polonara and Simone Fontecchio each scored 21 points for Italy. Gian Clavell led all scorers with 24 for Puerto Rico, which led by 17 at the end of the first half.
Italy (2-0, including the loss win) will play the Dominican Republic (1-1). Puerto Rico (1-1, including loss win) faces Serbia (2-0) in the other Semifinal on Saturday.
