The much more experienced Daniil Medvedev calmed Carlos Alcaraz’s spirits at Wimbledon and ended his dream at the All England Club (6-4, 6-1 and 6-2).
The Spanish gave much more battle than the final score reflected and won the affection of the public, who was cheering him on from start to finish, which he despaired of a Medvedev who put his hand to his ear in duel after scoring the first set.
Also, at the end of the meeting there was a friendly greeting and some nice words from the Russian to the young Spanish tennis player. “He is a tremendous player. In the first set, Carlos has surprised me since the grass is not his best surface, and he was giving it his all. In the second and third perhaps the gap was too great, but surely in the future it will be in the Top 10 and maybe higher. This year he has played the Australian Open, made the third round at Roland Garros and here the second round. In my first four Slams I only had one win, “said Daniil.
Alcaraz leaves the tournament having added his first victory on grass, his first win at Wimbledon and his first victory in a five-set match.
