Garin advanced to the third round for the first time at Wimbledon

Pure history is what Cristian Garin (20th ATP ranking) is doing at Wimbledon. After clinching the first win of his career on Wednesday at the major Londoner, this Thursday achieved a historic advance to the third round, something that a Chilean did not reach Since 10 years ago.

The Arica-born defeated Australian qualifier Marc Polmans (154th) by partials of 7-6, 6-2, 2-6 and 7-6 (5) and became the first in the country in a round of 32 best after Fernando González did it for the last time in 2011.

With this, Franco Davin’s pupil beat Polmans again, after overcoming him in the second phase of Roland Garros 2020, and in the third round of Wimbledon he will face the winner of the key between the Spanish Pedro Martínez and the French Gael Monfils (17th) .
