The Pumas are preparing for their first test, on Saturday against Romania that can be seen live from 14.50 on the screen of ESPN and ESPN 2, and so does your coach. At a press conference, Mario Ledesma analyzed how the team is working and what are the fundamentals, taking into account that players no longer coexist on a day-to-day basis as they did in Jaguares.
“Today we talk a lot about team building, trust, how to generate energy within the group. It is something that must be reinforced and is being built every day”, declared the Argentine coach. In turn, the former Australian staff member added that “You work for a certain result. Playing according to the expectation is dangerous and harmful if the results are not given.”
The last presentation of Los Pumas in the Rugby Championship (Three Nations due to the absence of South Africa) left the high bar of the team, which beat the All Blacks and drew twice with Australia. But that should not divert the team’s focus, as the coach analyzed: “The challenge is to play the best rugby, be humble and be ambitious. The boys have to build in confidence, in energy, in identity.”.
Ledesma also made reference to the team’s assembly: “Last year we went with 33 players from Argentina and 12 from Europe and now with three and the rest from Europe or Oceania. Very few are training with us”, marking in this way the lack of familiarity in the day to day between the players. In this regard, the exhooker stressed the importance of identity and argued that “It is dangerous to believe that identity is something acquired, you have to work on it every day.”
Juan Martín González joins Mario Ledesma’s squad for the July window, replacing Tomás Lezana from Santiago, due to injury. It will be the second experience with @pumas for the 20-year-old from Mendoza trained in @maristarugby #VamosLosPumas #Rugby pic.twitter.com/qi0LYW0CYY
