MADRID – Pau Torres could continue another season at Villarreal despite the approaches he has received from both Manchester United and Real Madrid in recent months, according to different sources have informed ESPN.
The 24-year-old center-back is currently contesting the Eurocup with Spain after a season in which he helped his childhood team win the Europa League title.
Barcelona and Manchester City asked about his services last summer and United and Madrid were also closely monitoring his evolution for next season.
In fact, both the English giant and the white team even tested the player to know his intentions first-hand.
The approaches of United and Madrid did not sit too well at Villarreal and the club was not willing to negotiate their transfer below the 65 million euros that appear in their termination clause if they managed to qualify for European competitions.
Villarreal will play in the next Champions League after beating United in the final of the Europa League and everything indicates that Pau will continue another season in Castellón to play the maximum continental competition in the club of his life.
The interest of United and Madrid has not finally crystallized since the two giants of Europe have other priorities for now.
The English club is trying to close the signing of Raphael Varane to reinforce the rear while the intention of the white club is to get as much money as possible in sales to try to sign a star like Mbappe or Haaland in the month of August.
Madrid, as Florentino Pérez himself has admitted, is not going through its best economic moment and the possible arrival of a new galactic would force them to delay the possibility of signing Pau Torres for another season.
However, sources close to the white club continue to admit that the Villarreal player is a target “either for now or for next year” and Torres would also prefer to continue in Spain.
Gerard Moreno, the other great Villarreal star, has also attracted the attention of some greats but the club indicates that this summer they do not need to sell any player due to the good economic situation of the entity.
Pau Torres, 24, made his debut for Villarreal in the Copa del Rey on December 20, 2016 against Toledo. After playing three games in the Copa del Rey and another two in the league, he was loaned to Malaga in the 2017/2018 season. His consolidation came in the 2018/2019 season when he settled in the first team and where, thanks to his performance, he has managed to be selected for both the Eurocup and the Olympic Games.
