Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul has become the consensus favorite to win the NBA Finals MVP at US sportsbooks.
In William Hill’s Caesars Sportsbook, Paul is listed at +170 to be named Finals MVP against the Milwaukee Bucks, which begin Tuesday (9 pm ET, ABC / ESPN3).
Paul, who entered the playoffs at 40-1, has drawn more bets to win the MVP than any other player at multiple bookmakers. It is the leader in number of bets and money bet on FanDuel.
“There has been significant action by Chris Paul to win the Finals MVP,” said Darren Darby, BetMGM sports trader, in a company statement. “Any other player who wins the award would be a good result for the book.”
Paul represents almost 20% of the money bet in the market by the MVP of the Finals at the BetMGM bookmakers. Only Giannis Antetokounmpo has drawn more money, but the Bucks star has had much lower odds than Paul and is in doubt for Game 1 of the series.
Suns guard Devin Booker is next behind Paul at +260 to win MVP at Caesars / William Hill. Antetokounmpo is +375, followed by teammates Khris Middleton (+650) and Jrue Holiday (+1,000). Phoenix’s DeAndre Ayton is 20-1.
Paul is making the first Finals appearance of his 17-year career. He is averaging 18.1 points and 8.7 assists during the postseason.
In addition to Paul winning the MVP, the Suns winning in a four game sweep at 9-1 odds is popular with bettors on the BetMGM books. A bettor made an $ 11,000 bet on the Suns to win in four games, BetMGM reported.
The Suns are favorites by 6.5 points in Game 1.
