Emma raducanu, the 18-year-old Englishwoman and ranked 338 in the WTA ranking before starting Wimbledon, reached the round of 16 of the English Grand Slam and had to leave when she lost 6-4 and 3-0 against Alja Tomljanovic.
Raducanu explained this Tuesday on his social networks what happened: “I want everyone to know that I feel better this morning. First, I want to congratulate Alja for his incredible performance and I apologize for the way he had to end the game. I was playing the best tennis of my life in front of an amazing crowd this week and I think the whole experience caught up with me. At the end of the first set, after a few long rallies, I started to breathe heavy and feel dizzy. The medical team advised me not to continue And even though it felt like the hardest thing in the world not to finish my match at Wimbledon, it was not good to continue. I want to thank the people who cheered me on in every match, I really wanted to win for you guys! I also want to thank All England Club, my team, the LTA, my parents and friends. Last night was a long one to help me learn what it takes to perform at the highest level. I am going to value everything we accomplished together this week and come back stronger! I can’t wait to see what’s next on my journey. “
Raducanu will appear in the Top 200 on Monday, roughly 176th.
