The Houston Sabercats announced the hiring of Heyneke meyer as the new rugby manager. The former coach of the Springboks joins the Texas franchise in a new position with which he will seek to contribute his experience in the different European rugby and Super Rugby leagues to the North American Major League.
Heyneke Meyer joins the long list of highly recognized characters arriving at the MLR in the quest to exploit the potential of the league. “This is a great moment for Sabercats. I am fully committed to turning this team into one that gets used to winning and brings a title to their fans in Houston,” Meyer said. The Texas franchise is last in the table with just 13 points and whose playoff expectations did not last long. “The Sabercats have the best facilities in the country, I am very excited to be working here,” emphasized the new rugby director.
Meyer re-engages with rugby after a two-year absence. Your latest team? Back then as head coach of Stade Francais, since today the Argentine Gonzalo Quesada occupies. Meyer was also the coach of the Springboks during the 2015 World Cup in England, where the South Africans took third place.
