Sergio Ramos is a new PSG player and signed for two seasons

Spanish defender Sergio Ramos signed by Paris Saint-Germain for two seasons, until June 30, 2023, announced this Thursday the French club, which thus continues a policy of significant reinforcements.

“Today is a very special day for me. I am very happy to be here in Paris. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the Parc des Princes, “said the player in a video released by PSG.

I am proud to be part of a very ambitious project, to be part of a team with great players“Ramos said in the statement in which the club announced the signing.

“It is a great change in my life, a new challenge and a day that I will never forget,” added the player, who assured his willingness to “grow with Paris and help the team work to get titles.”

PSG President Nasser Al Khelaïfi stressed that they host “one of the greatest players of our time” and “one of the best defenders in history” and he was convinced that the fans will give him “a fantastic reception”.

“Sergio is a complete footballer, one of the best defense in history. He is a net competitor, a leader and a great professional“Al Khelaïfi added.

The club, as usual, did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.

The player arrives in Paris after spending the last 16 seasons at Real Madrid, in which he won 22 titles, four of which stand out. UEFA champions league.

However, Ramos and the Real Madrid board chaired by Florentino Pérez did not reach an agreement on the continuity of the player, who requested a contract of two guaranteed seasons.

International with Spain 180 times, Ramos has won a World Cup and two Euro Cups with the national team, with which he has been captain on numerous occasions.

The Parisian club stressed that Ramos is a “versatile defender”, who can play in the center or the right flank of the defense.

Ramos underwent a medical examination on Wednesday at the American Hospital in Neuilly (outside Paris) and then went with his wife and four children to the club’s headquarters to sign the contract, in images that were disseminated through social networks and in which employees of the entity were seen cheering the player.

The player will wear the number 4, given to him by the German central Thilo Kehrer. “This number 4 I appreciate very much for superstition, since I have had it since the beginning of my career, it has accompanied me all my life and it has brought me luck and many victories,” says Ramos.

His signing brings experience and character to a team that is recruiting quality reinforcements to be able to measure face-to-face with the best in Europe and achieve the Champions League, which is the goal of its Qatari owners.

PSG already announced the signing on Tuesday from one of the most promising right-backs in the world, Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, from Inter Milan, thus reinforcing a position that until now had not been very well covered.

What’s more, the club has closed the Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose transfer from AC Milan should be announced when the Eurocup, in which Italy reached the final next Sunday.

On June 10, he announced the hiring until 2024 by Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, from Liverpool.

Both Ramos and Donnarumma and Wijnaldum have arrived for free, having finished their contracts in their respective clubs without reaching renewal agreements.

What’s more, PSG would be studying the signing of the French midfielder Paul Pogba, currently at Manchester United, as reported today L’Equipe, in what he calls “an arms race” in the Parisian team.

However, the French sports daily points out that PSG must first cut the number of players on its squad and lighten the wage bill.

Pogba, who is 28 and a fixture in the French national team, still has a one-year contract with United, although for now both parties seem very far from a renewal agreement.
