The year of Dominic Thiem (5th) is not being one of the best. The 27-year-old Austrian is 9-9 in 2021 and is recovering from a right wrist injury. It has him on edge for the US Open.
“I cannot guarantee or promise anything at this time. Even before I won it, New York was my favorite tournament. It would be a dream to be able to resume competition there, but it will be difficult.” Thiem told Sky Sports Austria.
During his match against Adrián Mannarino at the ATP 250 in Mallorca, the Wiener Neustadt-born suffered an injury to his right wrist. It forced him to leave that match and not appear at Wimbledon, Hamburg and Gstaad.
The Austrian was the champion of the 2020 edition of the US Open but during 2021 he could not overcome the fourth round of the Australian Open. In addition, he did not win in his debut at Roland Garros and his best performance of the year was at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, where he was a semifinalist.
