Croatian Marija Cicak will be, this Sunday, the first woman in history to referee the Wimbledon men’s final, who will face Serbian Novak Djokovic and Italian Matteo Berrettini.
The 43-year-old chair umpire is awarded a gold badge for her work as a referee, in addition to being a member of the WTA elite corps since 2012.
In this way, the final between Djokovic and Berrettini will be the first in the history of All England led by a woman: Cicak already has experience in women’s singles (2014) and doubles (2017) finals.
This is your 15th edition of Wimbledon, in addition to having participated in ten consecutive years of the teachers’ tournament and in other events such as the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup. He also refereed the Olympic final in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
It should be noted that in 2019, the last edition of Wimbledon that had been played, the umpire of the final between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic was the Argentine Damian Steiner, present in more than 50 Grand Slam.
