(EFE) – Flamengo won at home by 0-1 against Defensa y Justicia to take an advantage in this match valid for the round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup.
Michael’s goal in the 21st minute of the game gave Flamengo a victory that marked the debut of Renato Gaúcho as coach after the departure of Rogério Ceni from the Rio de Janeiro team bench.
The first stage showed a Defense and Justice who sought to impose his game with Walter Bou as the protagonist in the first minutes with two options, the second with a head blow that goalkeeper Diego Alves contained.
Defense sought to exploit the appearances of Carlos Rotondi on the left end of his attack against a Flamengo who was slow to settle on the field of play.
However, in the 21st minute Michael tried a shot from the edge of the area that barely deflected at Adonis Frías and dislodged goalkeeper Unsaín so that the ball entered through the upper left corner.
Defense and Justice did not stop betting on their game and at the end could have reached the tie in the 42nd minute with a pass between the lines for Rotondi that took a shot that was deflected by Alves.
In the second stage, the locals went looking for the tie and had a new option with a free kick from Adonis Frías that went very close to the right post of the Brazilian goal.
Gabriel Hachen was a very oiled entry for Defense who first had a free kick that again demanded a very safe Diego Alves under the three posts but with some insecurities when going out to look for aerial balls.
Flamengo, by averaging this second stage, became the owner of the ball and had his option with a shot from Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa that he demanded from Unsaín.
Defense had his options to equalize with a shot by Tomás Cardona and another by Tomás Escalante, added to one on the end of the entered Miguel Merentiel.
However, the lack of aim and the actions of Diego Alves prevented Defense from reaching the draw and Flamengo took a victory for the rematch in Brazil.
The return match will be on July 21 in Rio de Janeiro or Brasilia and the winner of this key will face the winner of the cross between Olimpia of Paraguay and Internacional of Porto Alegre in the quarterfinals.
