The Argentine League that begins this Friday will be called Torneo Socios.com after the Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced this Thursday an agreement with Chiliz, the creator of sports ‘Fan Tokens’ (digital assets).
“The Argentine Football Association has reached an agreement with Chiliz, creator of the sports Fan Tokens and the Socios.com app, so that the championship of the Professional Football League (LPF) of the First Division of Argentina – the most important in the country – it is called Socios.com Tournament, during the 2021-22 season, “the Professional Football League reported in a statement.
In May of this year the AFA had reached an agreement with the same company, which launched the Albiceleste ‘Fan Tokens’ and became a sponsor of the men’s and women’s national teams.
Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Milan, Manchester City and the Argentine Independiente are some of the teams that already have sports tokens on Socios.com.
The released statement defines Socios.com as “a D2C (direct to consumer) platform that uses ‘blockchain’ technology to offer sports organizations tools with which to retain and monetize their global fans.”
The president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, said that the “alliance” will be “very positive for both” and that it “will strengthen the bond.”
“Argentine football must continue to grow in the world, increasing its audience and global visibility. For this, it is very important to partner with top-level brands that have an impact around the world and that work hand in hand with AFA with the same objective”, said the manager.
Alexandre Dreyfus, director of Chiliz and Socios.com, said that this “historic announcement” is a “milestone on the road that will lead Socios.com to become the global brand of reference in the world of fan engagement (engagement)” and which will “exponentially” increase the “visibility” of the company in Argentina and Latin America.
“Tomorrow we will feel enormous pride when the first edition of the Socios.com Tournament starts. We are very excited, and we are already working to expand our presence in Argentina and throughout the region,” he said.
This same Thursday, the AFA also announced a new sponsor of the Professional Football League: the health services provider Etica +.
“With Etica + we managed to add to our organization a serious and professional company, so necessary for these times of pandemic in which health is at the center of the scene. We are proud to have them and that they support us with such conviction. Hopefully this accompaniment is the beginning of a very long relationship, “said the president of the LPF, Marcelo Tinelli.
