In a high-flying party, Pablo Carreño Busta (13th) defeated Federico Delbonis (48 °) by 7-6 (2) and 6-3 in just under two hours of play. In this way, the Spaniard reached the final of the ATP 500 from Hamburg, where he will face the Serbian Filip Krajinovic (44th), who beat Laslo Djere (57 °) on the other key.
Delbonis had a great performance despite the defeat: in the second set he suffered two breaks and missed four chances to break the Spanish service. On the other hand, in the first set neither had the chance to keep the other’s serve.
The Argentine reached three ATP semifinals so far this season, being the tennis player with the most accesses to that round in the country in 2021. The previous ones were achieved in Santiago and Belgrade: unfortunately for him, they were defeated and he has still not played a category final since 2016.
Delbo has 22 wins on brick dust this year, making him the second player with the most wins on this surface.: He was only one behind Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th), who has a mark of 23 (in Hamburg, the Greek said goodbye in the quarterfinals).
The Azuleño, from Monday, will be number 46 in the world, advancing two more places in the world ranking. His best finish was 33rd in May 2016. At this rate, Delbonis will be able to match – and exceed – that number.
