The ATP 500 tournament in Washington, which was canceled in 2020 and will host Spanish Rafael Nadal for the first time, confirmed in the last hours that he will maximize his capacity to assist and increase the economic prizes for participants.
Initially, considering the global health situation, it was agreed that the competition held in the US capital would have 50% of its capacity. However, thanks to an agreement with the city and federal officials of the National Park Service, where the Rock Creek Part Tennis Center is located, the venue where the event has been held since 1969, the organization announced that it will enjoy full stands.
“We have been working on this, together with the city and the park service, for a long time. We discussed it together and agreed that it was the right thing to do.”said investor Mark Ein, who took over command of the competition in 2019.
Finally, he referred to financial compensation, which had suffered drastic reductions in recent times: “We will restore full player prizes, adding $ 750,000, after a difficult year for many players’ income.”
