The American gymnast Simone Biles has been recognized by the social network twitter with her own emoji, a goat dressed in a red jersey and with a gold medal around her neck.
She is the first athlete to obtain this distinction, a tribute from the network “to her legacy, her achievements and her use of the platform”, in which Biles is very active.
The figure of the goat, ‘goat’ in English, refers to the acronym GOAT (‘Greatest Of All Time’, the best in history), commonly used in the networks to refer to great athletes such as Usain Bolt or Roger Fededer.
As of today, when you write the hashtag #Simone or #SimoneBiles on twitter, a goat will automatically appear next to her doing a ‘split’, wearing the red equipment that the gymnast often wears and with a gold medal on her chest.
Biles herself, winner of four gold medals and one bronze at the Rio 2016 Games and the holder of 25 world medals, 19 of them gold, has on occasion worn a goat in her competition tights.
The athletes who Twitter had granted their own emoji so far, such as American football players Pat Mahomes or Tom Brady, were all men.
Simone Biles will start competing at the Tokyo Games next Sunday, in the team qualifying round.
The United States delegation announced this Wednesday that Biles and his teammates will not stay at the Olympic Village, but in a hotel, as a preventive measure against covid-19.
