Vit Kopriva (249 in the world ranking) gave the big hit of the day in the tennis world. He dropped Denis Shapovalov (tenth in the world and first seeded) from Gstaad’s ATP 250 with sets of 2-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
The one born in the Czech Republic 24 years ago made the semifinals at the Challenger in Braunschweig (Germany) a few days ago, in Rome1 back in April and in Switzerland he is making his appearance as a professional tennis player.
Kopriva, who had never beaten a Top 10 before, made a superb comeback against Shapovalov That was shown with a lack of rhythm, since he had not competed since he lost in the Wimbledon semifinals against Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Now he will be measured in the quarterfinals against the Swede Mikael Ymer, who defeated the Spanish Feliciano López.
