From Yumbo to the world!  Luis Javier Mosquera dedicated the victory to Colombia

Luis Javier Mosquera made history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the weightlifter achieved the silver medal in the 67-kilogram category and became a double Olympic medalist after his past achievement in Rio 2016 when he reached bronze.

The weightlifter born in Yumbo, Valle del Cauca, after getting second place in the competition spoke to Caracol Televisión and expressed himself for his victory: “I am very happy with the work we have done for so many years, you can see the fruit. We were very close to gold and we are going to continue working. Thanks to the Colombian Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports, Indervalle, my wife and Yumbo ”.

In the statement, Mosquera also referred to the difficult process during the pandemic and also thanked those who have supported him remotely: “It is a worthwhile effort, we have had a very difficult five years, a very tough pandemic, a very difficult situation for our Federation. I was very concentrated, very focused and I thank God for giving me the blessing of this medal (…) I love my children with all my heart and fortunately the result was achieved. It is with a lot of dedication and a lot of effort, so dreams can be achieved ”.

The weightlifter who achieved the 30th Olympic medal for Colombia in the history of the Olympic Games. He did not forget his homeland and dedicated his triumph to it: “When I was on that podium I remembered those difficult years I had, but I was very dedicated and eager to get there and I was able to do it. I dedicate this medal to all of Colombia and that despite all the difficulties we are going through, it can be enjoyed ”.
