Unstoppable: Casper Ruud, the sensation of 2021 on clay

Without a doubt, 2021 smiles at Casper Ruud (14th). The Norwegian defeated Hugo Gaston (155th) 6-3 and 6-2 and became the ATP 250 champion of Gstaad, which meant his second consecutive title, the third of this season and the fourth of his career. So far a brilliant year.

Only Novak Djokovic (1st) this season has more titles than the Oslo-born tennis player. With four crowns (Australian Open, Belgrade II, Roland Garros and Wimbledon), the Serbian leads this list and is immediately followed by Ruud, who won in Geneva, in Bastad the previous week and now in Gstaad.

Further back, with two trophies, they are followed by Nikoloz Basilashvili (42nd), Matteo Berrettini (8th), Pablo Carreño Busta (11th), Alex de Miñaur (17th), Hubert Hurkacz (12th), Daniill Medvedev (2 ), Rafael Nadal (3rd), Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th) and Alexander Zverev (5th).

At the same time, joined a select list of which Roger Federer (9th), Nadal, Djokovic, Juan Martín del Potro (746th) are part and few more tennis players who are still active and who have ever won two tournaments in a row.

In Gstaad, the Norwegian’s performance was outstanding, as he only gave up one set: it was against Benoit Paire (49th) in the second round.

It should also be noted that the three tournaments that Ruud won this season were on clay, which positions him as a fearsome rival on this surface and that little by little he continues to gain ground on the circuit.
