The Memphis Grizzlies are finalizing a trade that would send Jonas Valanciunas to the New Orleans Pelicans, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday.
The Pelicans will send Memphis center Steven Adams, guard Eric Bledsoe, the No. 10 overall pick and the No. 40 overall pick in this week’s NBA Draft from Memphis for Valanciunas, the No. 17 pick and the No. 17 pick. No. 51.
New Orleans will also send a protected 2022 first-round pick from the Los Angeles Lakers to Memphis.
The deal frees up salary cap space for New Orleans that would allow them to match an offer sheet by point guard and restricted free agent Lonzo Ball or potentially go after another free agent point guard.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted that due to the salary involved – $ 15 million for Valanciunas, $ 17.1 million for Adams and $ 18.1 million for Bledsoe – the trade cannot be finalized until August 6 when free agency begins.
