The one who managed to hit first were the Fijians after a great collective play that ended in the hands of Meli Derenalgi. Two minutes later Sireli maqala managed to get to the opposite ingoal to increase the advantage.

The joy was cut off very quickly, as the New Zealanders managed to stay with the start, where Fiji is strong, and in a great counterattack they were able to get closer on the scoreboard thanks to their captain’s try, Scott curry.

Two minutes from the end of the first half, Fiji managed to score another try in the hands of Jiuta Wainiqolo that distanced him in the result. Despite this, New Zealand he was not out of focus and on time, Sione Molia he loaded several tackles and escaped to close the first half 19-12.

Already in the second stage, both teams had great defenses preventing their rival from scoring, until the Fijian, Asaeli Tuivuaka, leaked and managed to score the last try of the tournament. The final minutes Fiji held on to the advantage they had gained and played away from their ingoal at all times.

The island cast managed to maintain the great title obtained in Rio 2016. The gold medal was hanged again and thus it remained with the two-time championship. New Zealand improved what was done in that competition held in Brazil.
