In exchange, Tristan Thompson goes to Hawks; Kris Dunn arrives at Celtics

The Boston Celtics are trading Tristan Thompson to the Atlanta Hawks for point guard Kris Dunn, forward Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-round pick, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Thompson, 30, averaged 7.6 points and 8.1 rebounds while spending time in both frontcourt positions for Boston last season.

The Celtics traded Kemba Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder last month in order to bring back Celtics big man Al Horford, creating a need for the point guard spot.

Dunn, 27, was hired by Atlanta last season to help shore up its perimeter defense; however, he only appeared in four games after undergoing ankle surgery early last season.

Dunn is in the final year of a 2-year, $ 10 million contract he signed with the Hawks.
