The Mexican Olympic Committee assured that the person responsible for the situation of the uniforms will be found to apply the corresponding sanctions
The Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) announced through a press release that it has begun an investigation to determine the responsibility of the Mexican Softball Federation (FMS) as well as the corresponding sanction, after some players of the national representative threw their uniforms in the trash at the end of their participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“We are equally outraged with the player (s) and a thorough investigation will be carried out to find the person responsible for these acts applying the appropriate sanctions and stop representing this federation.”
“We extend an apology in advance to all of Mexico for this fact and we promise to go to the last consequences,” the statement read.
Similarly, it was reported that the Mexican Softball Federation sent a statement to Carlos Padilla Becerra, president of the COM to let him know how they found out about the event, thus discrediting the determination of the Mexican representatives.
“The fact that the Mexican national team took about three months in concentration and preparation tours and the amount of sports equipment that each player must carry, is not a reason to have made that decision,” it was reported.
In the end, the agency announced that they have staff at the different airports to help the members of the Mexican Delegation with the luggage issue, emphasizing that there is no excuse for not carrying the clothing in their luggage.
“It is important to mention that the COM permanently maintains personnel in the airports to supervise and send the luggage of the members of the Mexican Delegation, as well as the payment, without limit, of excess baggage if necessary,” they acknowledged.
