(EFE) – Atlético de Madrid won their second pre-season victory this Saturday after coming back ‘in extremis’ against Wolfsburg at home (1-2) thanks to goals from homegrown players Borja Garcés and Ricard Sánchez.
The players of the Atlético de Madrid subsidiary gave the call. They responded to the trust placed in them by Cholo Simeone and managed to turn the game around against a consolidated team in the Bundesliga that presented itself with a roster full of headlines.
The current champion of the Spanish league leaves Germany with a good taste in his mouth after reaping his second victory of the preseason after the victory against Numancia in the memorial meeting of Jesús Gil and Gil, but still with pending issues facing the start of the season.
In the first half the rojiblancos left much to be desired. They did not chain any dangerous play, their offensive baggage was nil and Wolfsburg, who felt remarkably superior, scored just before the break through their ‘killer’, the Dutch Wout Weghorst.
In the second period, the entry of new footballers gave another air to the Spanish team. They increased the intensity of the pressure and managed to bottle up the Germans in their field.
However, Atlético did not stop suffering. Croatian goalkeeper Ivo Grbic, who came to replace Oblak, had to appear to avoid the second home goal on a clear occasion.
The departure of one of the ‘outstanding’ homegrown players, Borja Garcés, changed the course of the game. Giuliano Simeone had the clearest chance of the match so far for the colchoneros and smashed the ball off the crossbar.
Then came the tying goal after an unappealable header from Garcés that made the visitors breathe. Wolfsburg began to falter in defense before the push of Cholo’s men, who with the goal launched themselves up in search of the long-awaited victory.
The rojiblancas connections worked perfectly in the final stretch and the result of great collective action came the victory goal for Ricard Sánchez, who picked up a good filtered pass from Garcés to define with his right leg under the Austrian goalkeeper.
Atlético de Madrid will face Cádiz on August 4 in the Ramón de Carranza Trophy and will travel to Rotterdam (Netherlands) to face Feyenoord in their last preseason match before the league start against Celta on August 15 .
