The postponement of the Olympic Games due to the pandemic allowed Aremi Fuentes to recover from some injuries
JAPAN – Thanks to the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Aremi Fuentes was able to achieve the Olympic medal.
The Mexican weightlifter, who won bronze, commented for ESPN Prior to his Olympic adventure, the year of postponement of the summer joust helped him to recover from the injuries he was dragging.
“Before attending that competition, the pre-Olympic, I had an injury, which despite it did not put the place at risk. It was unfortunate about the pandemic, I had two tears, but during the pandemic itself I was able to recover,” he said.
The injuries were concerns for Aremi’s family, who did not fully agree to weightlifting.
“At first, my family did not want me to be a weightlifter because they are passionate about athletics. It was a very big crash, many taboos in weightlifting, it is a strength sport. Many think that you can get hurt, because you go to weightlifting you go to lift weights, everything has a base and from that it continues until you can lift a bar, and well my family supported me and today they are very happy with the results, “he said.
“A lot of things had to happen when I was little. I started in athletics and had always dreamed of being on the podium, which I was never able to enter, because my conditions were not for athletics. I was always one of those very brave girls. In a weightlifting competition, a coach told me that he had conditions for that discipline and that’s how I tried. I don’t regret having listened to those indications from that coach, “he said.
