Cadiz vs. Atlético Madrid - Game Report - August 4, 2021

(EFE) – Cádiz won its ninth Ramón de Carranza Trophy title on Wednesday by beating Atlético de Madrid in the 66th edition of this summer tournament, which has been played in a single match at the Nuevo Mirandilla stadium.

The match came at the end of the ninety minutes with a goal tie, the Cadiz scoring their first four penalties. It was not necessary for them to launch the fifth, as the mattresses failed two to succumb in the resolution round.

From the beginning, Cádiz lined up a large part of the team that can be considered a starter, against an Atlético de Madrid that had many casualties compared to the team that last season were proclaimed league champions.

The first half began with a live game by both squads and already in the 15th minute, a free kick by Frenchman Thomas Lemar went wide.

Borja Garcés did not take advantage of a loose ball in the cadista area that had bounced off the face of Chilean Tomás Alarcón (19 ‘).

A minute later, a shot by Uruguayan Luis Alfonso Espino, who had just entered the field due to injury to Paraguayan Santiago Arzamendia, caused goalkeeper Jan Oblak to be used in depth.

In the last moments of the first half, Atlético de Madrid pressed to step on the Cadista area more frequently.

In one of these actions, a great play by the Argentine Giuliano Simeone, with a back heel to the Belgian Yannick Carrasco, was solved by the latter with a cut included in his pair to score the first goal of the match (m.41).

In the second half, Cádiz was able to tie in a center by Carlos Akapo that was poisoned by rebounding off Geoffrey Kondogbia and that defender Sergio Camus had to take out under the sticks (m.58).

Cádiz took advantage of the tickets on the right wing in those minutes and another center from there was finished by Alberto Perea, to clear Oblak in a great intervention (m.63).

Again the same protagonists in minute 77 and similar result: Perea fired and stopped Oblak.

Cádiz dominated most of the second half and their drive and insistence, in the end, found a reward.

Once again, Perea, the most incisive footballer of Cádiz, scored in a dry shot from the front that the Atlético goalkeeper could not reach (m.85), which forced the arrival to the penalty shoot-out.
